Part of the fun when building a custom vehicle is giving it a theme name when the vehicle takes on a personality of it's own. Brain Hale from Los Alamitos, California built this mini- monster he likes to call "Flakenstein". It has a wildly flamed paintjob with metal flake and it's creation from a run-of-the-mill stock 2000 Chevy S-10 made the name a perfect fit for this one-of-a-kind creation.

The S-10 had to be brought down to a frame-laying stance in order to get the look Brian was going for and fit the 20-inch Kruz K-06 wheels. The truck was slammed using Firestone air bags in the front and rear with the help of a fellow Severed Ties club member, Jason Woods. The front also was updated with a set of Belltech drop spindles and the rear received a reversed 4-link to help handle the road better than the stock leaf springs and get better traction as well. All four corners of the suspension have Toxic gas shocks to dampen the always rough Southern California streets. The air system consists of six ViAir 350 compressors, four chrome 5-gallon tanks, dual air gauges, and the air is delivered to the 'bags through 1/2-inch E Air Valves thanks to David Aguilar, another Severed Ties club member. To make a little more room for the 20-inch wheels in the rear, the bed was given a set of wheel tubs that are much higher than the factory stamped bed tubs.

Making the Flakenstein name fit would be very difficult if not for the spectacular paintjob that Brian's S-10 was given. First, the truck needed to be modified to get rid of anything that would take away from it's flamed paint and overall look. The door handles, tailgate handle, and rear bumper were removed and tossed aside. The door and tailgate holes were welded up with filler panels and smoothed out. Then a Sir Michaels roll pan with drop tag  license plate opening and dual exhaust cutouts was molded in place of the rear bumper. The side mirrors and wiper cowl were replaced with cleaner looking Street Scene aftermarket versions. The front grille was treated to a Stull billet grille insert. After all of the body work was finished, it was time to get to work on the long and difficult job of spraying a paintjob that would be eye catching and thought provoking at the same time. Jared Crutchfield and his crew at Classic Traditions Kustom Paintshop in Garden Grove, California starting laying out the plan which started with a House of Kolor Kandy Apple Red over a Silver base coat. Then the flames were laid out using Pagan Gold Kandy and Zenith Gold base with yellow-lime chameleon metal flake. The late 1950's style hot rod flames they were inspired by were always pinstriped in white so the pinstripe on Brian's truck was done in white by Bob Iverson. The cabs rear pillars were airbrushed by Dan Schultz and feature 1950's style pinup girls.

To stick with the going theme, the interior is also done with the same paint colors to match the outside. All of the panels that were going to be painted had to be sanded down until they were smooth enough to paint. Classic Traditions did all of the paintwork on the interior using the same colors and included the metal flake as well to match it perfectly. The seats were wrapped by Andy and Kurt at Radis Custom Upholstery in Garden Grove, California with red and white vinyl. The stock carpet was replaced with white carpet to match the seat inserts and the headliner is white with red piping. The other interior upgrades include flamed gauges, Billet Specialties steering wheel, Billet specialties rearview mirror, and billet covers for the air conditioning & light controls.
