Product Review: SuperTooth Disco

While it sounds a little like a strange band name from the 1970′s, the SuperTooth Disco is actually a high quality Bluetooth Speaker that will play your audio from any Bluetooth enabled device. After opening the package then plugging the Disco in to the wall near the desk, we paired an iPhone 4 with it and we were up and running very quickly. There are no difficult steps besides the simple pairing setup that you need with almost any Bluetooth device. Type the pairing code that comes with the speaker into your phone when it prompts you and you have audio from any file you play on your device. In the first test, we played several different files to hear what it could really do. You can control the volume and other settings directly from your phone or from the buttons on the disco. We turned the phone volume up all the way and Disco to about half way on the dial. The bass response was an unexpected surprise. It sounds better than any other Bluetooth speaker we’ve ever used. It isn’t going to rumble your house, garage or anywhere else you use it but you do get some lower notes that other speakers seem to ignore in their range capabilities. The bass also has an on/off button so you can decide to use it or not depending on what you are listening to.

Where do you listen to music besides in your car? We have used the SuperTooth Disco for a few months now and it’s been great for the garage, office, hotel rooms, out by the pool during the Summer, the beach and even the bathroom. Shower music anyone? Another advantage to this highly-capable speaker is pairing it with our iPad and watching movies with fuller sound than you get from the iPad speaker or the hassle of having to wear headphones!
So what if you don’t have a Bluetooth device? Well, I would usually say to get one but in this case, the SuperTooth Disco has a 3.5mm jack in the back for other gadgets that aren’t Bluetooth capable. We tested it with a iPod Shuffle and it worked great.

No matter what your music preference, the SuperTooth Disco can handle the range and supply enough sound to entertain a group of people. It isn’t going to be loud enough to annoy your neighbors like a home or car audio system could, but maybe that’s a good thing. We tested the range of the system and walked near 30 feet away before the speaker stopped playing the music from the iPhone. You don’t even need to keep it plugged in to a wall outlet. The battery is rechargeable so once it’s full, you can take the Disco with you. It has an estimated 3-4 hours of playing time at high volume, 10 hours at medium volume and 500 hours standby time on the NIMH power pack that only takes 3 hours to charge up.

What we say:

It looks like a sleek vehicle interior component from an Audi or other late-model luxury ride.
The sound quality is better than all other portable speakers we’ve used.
The sleeve/holster it comes with protects the speaker when using it in a working environment. Even when accidentally dropping a 3/4-inch ratchet on top of the unit.
Although we love our music loud in our vehicles, this speaker is perfect for almost every other situation. Enough volume for most locations without disturbing others or keeping you from hearing your surroundings.
