The internet can be a great place to find anything
you are looking for. Take this 1965 Lincoln Continental for example. It was
originally purchased in 1965 for Mrs. Norma B. McKenzie.
When it was purchased by the current owner, the original nameplate
that Lincoln engraved with Norma's name was still on the dash. Norma and her
husband have since passed away and left the car to their kids, who held to it
for a while and then sold it to an auto broker. Dave Fizer from Bakersfield,
California purchased the car on eBay from the auto broker located in Hollywood,
California. Back in 1965, this car came from the factory fully loaded. It had
power windows, power vent window wings, dual power seats, A/C, cruise control,
and front disc brakes. The bucket seats, which were rare for that year, suicide
doors, and tilt front hood made this Continental cool from the start. After all,
suicide doors from the factory are one of the coolest ideas any automotive
designer implemented. The
Lincoln is now over 40 years old and it's second owner has been good to it.
As you may be able to imagine, the 40 year old paintjob had been weathered and
was in need of a new coat. Adam at A&R Customz repainted Dave's Continental
to give it a "like new" look, but with a twist. First, he shaved the hood
emblem, the two original emblems on the roof pillars, and all four door handles.
He used a black base coat with a dark blue pearl that is difficult to see in
pictures, but is very noticeable in person. The wheels are 22-inch BSA with
205/35/22 tires installed by Trino and Steve from San Joaquin Wheel &Tire which had to be drilled and
countersunk before adding spacers for clearance.
If the exterior had been a little weathered after 40 years, the
interior was definitely in need of major attention. As soon as Dave saw the car,
he had a plan for what the interior would look like. Aquillas and Tono Tovar
started out with B-Quiet soundproofing throughout the entire interior and trunk.
Then came the new padding and carpet on top of it. They then proceeded to cover
the the entire interior including the original seats in black and blue suede
with silver piping. Dave likes his music loud so he enlisted the help of Rich from Elite Mobile
Audio. It starts with a Pioneer head unit, Kicker Amps with an electronic X-over, and 1.5 farad capacitor
that Dave already had at his house to go into whatever vehicle he worked on next. Rich built custom fiberglass kick
panels for each side to house two 5-inch mid-range speakers and
two 1-inch tweeters. Rich used the original package tray in the rear and formed
it with fiberglass for the 5x7-inch speakers and tweeter combo.
In the trunk, Rich had a very large space to work with so he custom built an
enclosure to hold four MA Audio 10-inch subwoofers. The box was ported through
to the back seat area into the cabin of Dave's Lincoln. For an even more modern
touch, the system was set up with an iPod module to keep all of Dave's music at
his fingertips.
As a sign of the times, Adam from A&R Customz sent the car out for a full Clifford
alarm system which includes remote poppers for both front doors and the trunk.
Dave now has a cool Lincoln that started that way from the factory, but was
customized and upgraded with a new millennium style.
