There
are some people that start customizing their ride with no plans for what it will
look like when it’s finished. Brandon Dixon from Diamond Bar, California
started his 1996 Chevy S10 with a few modifications and took it to a few shows
with the stock paintjob untouched. The project then turned into a full themed
truck with stars and glitter-like metal flake paint everywhere. That theme was
continued throughout his ride with interior and even a star themed body
modification.
The truck was brought closer to the asphalt using Firestone 2500 front
air bags and 2600 rear air bags on a de-arched mono leaf setup. The truck gets
up and down by way of 15mm SMC valves with Front, back, and side-to-side motion.
The rear had to tuck 20 inch KMC Venom wheels so wheel tubs were used in the bed
along with step notch cover to keep it clean. The front rolls on 18 inch KMC
Venom wheels also with no tubs needed. The wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone
Potenza 35-255 series tires. Jay Larossa at Sportruck Specialties in Carson,
California completed all of the suspension work.
On the outside of Brandon’s Chevy, a ‘99 GMC Envoy swap updated the
front end including the core support, bumper core, bumper, lights, fog lights,
Grille and Billet upper and lower grille inserts. Body modifications include a
shaved stock antenna hole and frenched in star hole just behind the cab on the
drivers side. Also removed from the body was the tail gate handle, hood
squirters, door handles and the bumper was removed in exchange for a smooth roll
pan.
A
custom 18 inch LED from Wings West was molded in above the rear window and APC
euro tail lights replaced the stock red ones. A Checkmate Tonneau Cover and
custom matched blue Line-X was used for the bed. Steve DeMan in Chino Hills,
California used a custom mix of House of Kolor Paints including silver, blue and
turquoise. He also used a 3 color metal flake.
In the cab, the stock seats were reconstructed using gray tweed, custom
blue carpet and star material. Revo Reeves and his crew at Stitchcraft Interiors
in Huntington Beach, California redid the doors, dash, seats, rear wall, and
underside of the tonneau cover.
The engine was upgraded from stock with a host of parts from Sportruck
Specialties starting with chromed power pulleys and cold air intake. Also
installed are roller rockers, an electric fan, Optima
battery, and a 290-amp high output alternator. CGS Motorsports replaced the
lacking stock exhaust system with a high flow catalytic converter and cat-back
exhaust system.
Brandon’s finished truck was debuted at one of California’s premier
summer events, The California Truck Jamboree receiving 1st place at
that show and taking 10 trophies total at events since then. He has won Best of
Show, Best Paint, and was a Feature Vehicle in the Line-x booth at the 2002 SEMA
Show.
He
would like to thank Marcel at Line-X in Santa Ana and CGS Motorsports for all of
their help with his buildup. He would also like to thank our model, Brooke Dixon
for adding a little spark for the feature. His truck is for sale if you are
interested and you can email him here for any questions.
