During the winter months, some owners put their trucks into their garage, storage, or even into a shop for major work during the off-season time. Other truck owners seem to only bring their trucks out for a few major events all year long. Mike "Sclem" Sclimenti from Torrance, California is one of those guys. He has been in the scene so long that he no longer takes his truck to smaller shows. He leaves it at home, under a Global Accessories car cover, and gives the other guys a chance at the glory and awards. Sclem's 1999 GMC Sonoma is one of the cleanest vehicles you will find anywhere. It truly is a clean, mildly modified, and well taken care of show vehicle. When he does pull it into a show, it sits below some peoples "radar" until it's trophy time. Then they are trying to figure out which truck took the trophy they expected to have.

His Sonoma sits on the pavement with help from Firestone air bags in the front and rear. The front was not going to lay flat so a set of DJM drop spindles were installed. In the rear, the leaf springs were removed and a mono leaf was re-installed on each side. The truck gets it's lift from the two compressors and four 3-gallon air tanks installed under the bed. Musso Motorsports removed the stock cross member and a STS carrier bearing cross member took it's place. The Sonoma now sits on 18-inch front and 20-inch rear Bounce Wheels from Akuza Road Concepts.

One of the more unique modifications to Sclem's truck is the 2000 GMC Envoy front bumper and headlights. His truck was one of the first to do this a few years ago. The bumper holes were filled with lights with the larger openings receiving T-Rex upper and lower billet inserts. The stock cowl was replaced with a Street Scene smooth version. Billet Specialties wiper studs and billet antenna took the place of the wipers and extra long stock antenna. The rear end got it's share of the custom additions and changes too. Stock taillights and 3rd brake light were tossed out in favor of 1994 Cadillac Deville taillights and a 10-inch LED 3rd brake light installed by Starbuck’s Customs. The rear was smoothed out with a molded Sir Michael’s roll pan and handle relocator kit. Before the bed could be topped off with his fiberglass tonneau cover from Gaylord's, Sclem had a set of STS wheel tubs installed to fit his rear wheels. Then the inner bed was sprayed with Line-X. The truck was then re painted along with the door handles to match.

Starting where Line-X left off, Custom suede and leather bed mats were made by Stitchcraft to cover some parts of the bed. Revo at Stitchcraft also covered the door panels, seats and floor mats to give the truck a nicer, more comfortable interior. The dash bezel was modled and painted black to match the truck by  Ryan Evans of Kaotic Kustoms. In that piece, a Firestone black face air gauge was installed to monitor where the truck sat at all times. Naiser Racing Components are responsible for the cool Revenge billet steering wheel with adapter and horn button that replaced the stock bulky steering wheel. The pedals and shifter then had to match so Sclem replaced them with Billet Specialties pedals and shifter. The gauge cluster also matches using a Empire Motorsports billet unit. The audio system in Sclem's Sonoma is pounding with the use of three Kicker 12” Subwoofers and Kicker component speakers. The perfect fitting fiberglass speaker box was built by Steve Platt of Plattinum Audio Designs who's Chevy S-10 "Steel Flame" was previously featured on our site.

In the engine compartment, Sclem keeps it clean and has added a few billet pieces to add some flair. The stock intake was replaced with a STS performance intake. The billet power pulleys are also from STS. The component covers, cap covers, and flamed battery bracket are from Billet Customs. The battery was tossed out and a Red Top Optima took it's place.

Mike would like to thank his sponsors and friends including Akuza Road Concepts, Bridgestone Tire, Line-X Corporation, Rick and Roger at Global Accessories, Naiser Racing Components, Jorge @ I&J Autobody, Joe and Adam at Musso Motorsports, Steve at Plattinum Audio Designs, Revo at Stitchcraft Interiors, Dave at Dimension X Graphix, John at Grady Racing, Starbucks Customs, Mike Self, Ryan Evans, Marcel Venable, Brandon Hall, T-Bone, Jay LaRossa, Gil Luna Jr., Kevin Aguilar, Bryan Fross,  all members of his club XTREME LOWZ Worldwide, his family, and his "awesome" wife Lisa.
